Bertie Launches with €1.5M Pre-Seed Backing to Transform Startup Ecosystems

With investment from early Global Shares backers,  Bertie is building the AI operating system for modern startup support—digitally, systematically, and at scale.

Just months after launching in Q1 2025, Bertie, the digital operating system for startup ecosystems, has secured significant investor backing as part of a €1.5 million pre-seed round.

The raise is backed by a group of well respected Irish investors known for championing entrepreneurship and innovation including being early backers of Global Shares, the fintech scaleup acquired by J.P. Morgan in one of Ireland’s largest tech exits. They include  Eoghan Quigley, former Tax Partner KPMG and recently appointed President of Dublin Chamber, Ron Bolger, former Managing Partner KPMG, Gerard Flood and Michelle Connolly, former Corporate Finance Partners KPMG and Richard Whelan, former Audit Partner KPMG. Their support signals strong confidence in Bertie’s mission to modernise and digitise startup ecosystems across accelerators, public agencies, and innovation hubs.

“The traditional model of founder support is under pressure—it’s expensive, fragmented, and increasingly out of sync with how modern startups operate,” said Philip Reynolds, Managing Partner at Armstrong Studio. “Bertie is built to change that. It’s a digital-first infrastructure that makes startup support scalable, transparent, and truly founder-focused.”

Built by a team of seasoned venture builders, Bertie provides startup ecosystems with smart tools to guide, track, and accelerate founders from idea to traction. Features include intelligent venture development boards, personalised AI-assisted journeys, dynamic data rooms capturing the full venture journey from day one, and context-specific collaboration tools—replacing manual workflows and siloed systems with a single integrated platform.

Since its launch earlier this year, Bertie has already been adopted by pilot partners in European innovation programs. With the pre-seed raise the company is now focused on scaling platform capabilities, deepening ecosystem integrations, and onboarding new white-label clients in Europe and beyond.

“We’re not just building software—we’re building digital infrastructure for innovation,” Reynolds added. “Bertie helps ecosystems do more with less—while giving founders the clarity and structure they need from day one.”

The Myth of "Not Enough Funding": Most Ecosystems Have a Readiness Gap, Not a Capital Gap

The real bottleneck is the supply of ventures that can demonstrate investor-readable proof of learning, traction, and risk reduction. Bertie was built around this diagnosis: that investor readiness is a system of evidence, artefacts, and documented decisions.

The “Accelerator Theatre” Problem: Why busy programmes still produce weak outcomes

Accelerator Theatre is the pattern where startup programmes appear highly active, full of sessions, mentors, workshops, and demo days, but fail to produce validated founder learning, clear customer evidence, or meaningful post-programme outcomes. The term describes programmes that optimise for calendar density rather than decision discipline, and it is more widespread in the accelerator ecosystem than most programme leaders are willing to acknowledge.
